Making the move across American state lines may not cause many changes for your life in general. While each city has its own flavor, moving from Las Vegas to a city in California shouldn’t require much change. There are a few things to know in order to become a true resident of the Golden State, before you call your Las Vegas movers and settle on specifics.

1. If you move into California from another state, you only need to register your car at the Californian DMV if you start working in the state, or you get a California driver’s license. Be aware that you may end up paying a large, one-time registration fee if your car doesn’t pass California emission standards, which are stricter than more states.

2. If you are lucky enough to have an income of a million or more, there is a special one percent surcharge collected on taxable income. This is from the Mental Health Services Tax.

It allows you to search by crime type, from more serious to less serious offenses. You will find crimes that have occurred in your area from up to a mile away.

Also search the National Sex Offender Public Website. It will also generate a map of known offenders, or can give you a list with photos. Both sites are also good resources for safety tips.

3. A third website to utilize is called Spot Crime. Access information about arrests, arsons, assaults, burglaries, robberies, shootings, thefts, and vandalism in the form of a map. Just input your location and it will respond with the latest information about crime in that area. Use this resource to compare the amounts of crime in the different neighborhoods you are considering.

What You Might Not Know About Moving with Pets to Henderson, Nevada

You should know that you are only allowed three dogs and/or cats per household. If you have a puppy less than three months of age, it does not need to be licensed, but all other animals must be. It is required that you bring your pet’s rabies certificate in order to receive a license.

1. Las Vegas is in an arid climate with a desert landscape, which may be very different than what you are used to. Get used to going out of your way to park in the shade, think about window tinting, and use something to cover the steering wheel and belt buckles.

4. Las Vegas has all the normal arts and culture that any city would have, apart from the casinos. There is the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Nevada Ballet Theater, and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. You have First Fridays to look forward to, when downtown between Charleston Boulevard and Main Street opens up its arts district for a giant evening party. You can walk between art galleries, eclectic shops, hear lives bands, and enjoy the ambiance.

5. Las Vegas has 50 public parks including dog parks and skate parks. You will have access to lighted basketball courts, playground equipment, aquatic facilities, walkways and picnic areas. 1. Start on the strip at the Bellagio Casino. You can’t miss the Dancing Waters Fountain. This is a one-of-a-kind fountain that surprises you with its intensity and size. The water jets are synchronized to opera, classical, and Broadway music in a way that can only be described as choreography. During the day you can see the fountain every half hour, and after 8pm every 15 minutes.

2. Go inside the Bellagio and see the 27 foot tall chocolate fountain. Like something out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, white and dark chocolate flow from above tempting you with the smell. That’s okay, because you can buy a decadent dessert from the store next door, and gaze at the designer cakes and candies.

3. Visit the Mirage Casino Volcano, outside on the strip. This spectacle of lava and fire was created by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Indian tabla sensation Zakir Hussain, and WET who designed the Bellagio fountain.

4. Head to Circus Circus Casino to see the circus acts that are free and running all day starting at 11am. Check out African Acrobats International, originally from Kenya. They juggle, are contortionists, and build human pyramids. They are called a “cross between Cirque de Soliel and the Harlem Globetrotters.”

5. Take a cab over to the Fremont Street Experience. This is old-style downtown Las Vegas with a different feel than the strip. Casinos and attractions are close together, so walking is a must, and you will be beneath the overhead canopy, which as dusk displays a light show. This is no ordinary canopy. It is 5 football fields long, and has 12.5 million LED modules showing high resolution images synchronized with music. It is a must see.

A local church charity operation in Las Vegas was made an offer they could refuse. Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, was lucky enough to receive a generous amount of book donations at the charity’s main store on North Rancho Drive near Vegas Drive. One of the workers sorting through the donated books came across an inch-thick book, bound in burgundy leather, with “The Godfather” name on it. According to the Las Vegas Sun, “She quickly flipped it open (there was no loose cash) and found the title: The Godfather: Screenplay by Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola. At the bottom of the first page, a typed note read, “Third Draft, March 29^th 1971.””

Diane Hutton, the president of the local charity landed herself on the hit television show, “Pawn Stars”. She traveled to Gold & Silver Pawn on Las Vegas Boulevard where the hit show takes place. She bartered with Rich Harrison and Austin “Chumlee” Russell to get about $1,000 for the screenplay, which was autographed by Al Pacino. According to the Las Vegas Sun, “Harrison offered her $500. Hutton did refuse, saying she hoped she’d fetch at least $1,000. The screenplay is still for sale. Hutton said she may hang on to it for a silent auction in February during the charity’s Hearts of Hope awards banquet.”
